The Tasmanian Government is changing the way it delivers and manages information technology (IT) services to ensure they are cost-effective and efficient and to make sure that government can respond quickly to changing needs and new opportunities.

The Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPAC) undertook intensive business planning and consultation with Tasmanian Government agencies during November and December 2009 to define the next steps and a program of IT transformation activities.

This business planning has identified the need to build a strong sustainable business based on the strengths already within TMD, and prepare it to deliver new services as part of IT Transformation.

Current activities

Current activities include:

• Developing a policy and a business case for a common email and calendaring platform, supported by an identity and authentication platform that can be used across government. The successful delivery of the email and calendaring platform will build the key foundations for connecting government, coordinating cross-agency service delivery, and allowing agencies to focus on their own emerging lines of business.
• Developing a vision and strategy for IT services for the Tasmanian Government that will set the direction for the IT Transformation Program.  The aim of the strategy is to connect government by providing contemporary, common platforms and business services, allowing agencies to focus on core business.

Current services

Current services will continue to be provided. The changes to IT management will be implemented incrementally.
