Identity and Access Management Toolkit

The Inter Agency Steering Committee approved the identity and access management policy to be applied by Tasmanian Government bodies in October 2008. The policy is based on the elements of the National Identity Security Strategy, which is the subject of an Inter-Governmental Agreement signed by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) in April 2007.

This policy has been incorporated into the Tasmanian Government Identity and Access Management Toolkit (the Toolkit), which comprises the identity and access management policy, together with a range of supporting guidelines and standards to assist in implementing that policy.

The purpose of the Toolkit is to guide Tasmanian Government agencies in the determination of identity registration, identity credential issuing (or authentication), and credential verification requirements for services. It applies equally to:

  • Staff and clients of Government
  • Development of new services and the review and improvement of existing services
  • Electronically and non-electronically delivered services

The Toolkit is made up of the following:

  • Introduction and Glossary
  • Part 1 Assessing Identity Risk Guidelines
  • Part 2 Identity Registration Guidelines and Standards
  • Part 3 Identity Credential Management Guidelines and Standards
  • Part 4 Identity Access Management Guidelines
  • Appendices (three endorsed National Identity Security Strategy standards)
