Effective steering committees

A steering committee is the key body within the governance structure that is responsible for the business issues associated with the project. It is essential to ensuring the delivery of the project outputs and the achievement of project outcomes and longer-term business benefits. Its responsibilities include:

Approving the budgetary strategy;
Defining and realising the project's outcomes;
Monitoring risks;
monitoring quality and timelines;
Making policy and resourcing decisions; and
Assessing requests for changes to the scope of the project.
