Web Design and Navigation Guidelines

The Tasmanian Government's website design and navigation guidelines provide practical advice on:

  • Implementing whole-of-government website design and navigation requirements;
  • Establishing a consistent user experience for Tasmanian Government websites through consistent website content, layout, navigation and
  • Adopting better practices in website design and navigation.

The guidelines also provide information about mandatory and recommended design and navigation elements for Tasmanian government websites, including:

  • Mandatory requirements (as determined by Cabinet or by Law);
  • Recommended requirements (as approved by the Inter Agency Steering Committee); and
  • Optional requirements (generally regarded best practices, ubiquitous practices or deprecated practices).

These guidelines have been developed in consultation with the Tasmanian Government Web Publishing Reference Group.

The Inter Agency Steering Committee (IASC) has approved these guidelines for use by Tasmanian Government agencies.
